Flying to Da Nang from Ho Chi Minh City – Day Eighty, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Sunday 9th September
With our 1 year wedding anniversary coming up in a couple of days we really wanted to head further north to Hoi An in time to enjoy our anniversary there. At first, we were planning on stopping in a couple of other places between Ho Chi Minh City & Hoi An, but we just hadn’t left the time. The quickest and most convenient option turned out to be to just jump on a flight from HCMC (Ho Chi Minh City) to Da Nang, which is about 40-minute drive from Hoi An.
On Saturday we booked our midday flight for Sunday, hoping with a bit of lay in Tom would start to feel better. But, shortly after booking we received an email from Jetstar letting us know that our flight had been cancelled and we’d been put on the 9 am flight instead. Not ideal, but we did manage to get $100/£50 worth of vouchers towards a future flight with them.
Since our new flight time was quite a bit earlier we had to be awake much earlier, by 7am we were heading to the airport from our hotel. Heading to an airport always seems to awaken my anxiety, and as soon as I’m anxious I get nausea and feel pretty shitty – so it looked like both Tom and I would be in a great mood for this flight!
A couple of hours later, and a bit of a rocky flight, we arrived into Da Nang. Before heading to Hoi An we decided to hang around Da Nang for a couple of days since Da Nang Beach is voted as being one of the best in the world.
Straight out of the airport we ordered a Grab Car to take us to our hotel, and once settled into our room we pretty much fell straight to sleep. You know neither of you are feeling great when the first thing you want to do in a new place is sleep rather than explore!
A few hours later, and finally feeling more rested we headed out for some late lunch/early dinner at Maharaja Indian Restaurant.
Once we were full of food we decided to head down to Da Nang Beach to wander through the lovely white sand we’d heard so much about online. We definitely were not disappointed by the sand, it was so super soft and white! We even managed to enjoy a beautiful pink sunset before heading back to the hotel.
