Australia Road Trip, Day Fifteen – Sunrise & Hike at Kings Canyon

Day fifteen on our Australia Road trip to Uluru/Ayers Rock…

Thursday

After a lazy day on Wednesday, we were up very early to pack up all our camping equipment and head out to hike Kings Canyon. We woke up around 4:30am, and spent a good two hours quietly tiptoeing around the campsite to get all our stuff packed up.

By 6:30am we were driving to Kings Canyon to watch another amazing sunrise. The sun rose perfectly over the rocks, as we mentally prepared ourselves for quite a steep uphill hike.

The hike turned out to actually be pretty easy, with it taking us only two hours instead of the four hours all the online guides said it would take. It was also one of the most beautiful hikes we’ve ever done, especially since we’ve left Melbourne. The views from the top were amazing. If you’re visiting Uluru, definitely make sure you fit in Kings Canyon too!

After a busy morning hiking, we drove the four hours back towards Stuart Highway, staying at a site we’d previously stayed at a few days before – Erldunda Roadhouse.
